Sept. 8, 1942, [Wendaner?], Utah Dear Dad & Mom: Just had mail call, got a letter from Bob and one from Grandma with the picture of the family reunion in it. She said they got $1600 dollars hail insurance and that while part of the corn wasn't so good Ralph is picking it for the hogs and part is so good it scared him. Pfisters will stand a lot of reverses and I hope they get plenty of feed they have so many pigs. The reunion picture was very good but kind of a slim crowd (in numbers). Didn't seem like many kids. Haven't been very busy today and had to find an oil leak in an engine and service planes and clean up the ramp, can't have any grease spots or oily rags around and all stands and equipment must be lined up just so. It does look better that way & I like to see things kept neatly. Got my grades from Sheppard Field today they aren't so hot I'll send them home, they weren't the worst by a long way tho. They didn't give very high grades as we came thru down there. Boy I was glad to get away from there. I surely didn't like that place. It is getting cool this evening many of the fellows have tried their sheep lined coat and report them very warm. Im not going to wear mine until it is really cool. I wear my wool sweat shirt under my coveralls & was quite comfortable evenings. I am forced to say this place has a good climate and if it just had some grass & trees it wouldn't be bad. Also if there was just a town near hear. However we have plenty of entertainment, more than I find time to go to.
