Sept. 1, 1942 Wendover, Utah Dear Dad & Mom: Well I missed a day writing yesterday I was so tired from the sleep I've been missing I slept almost all day. Felt good again today, its very warm and thats what makes it impossible to sleep. We are putting new de-icer boots on one of our planes. This is an awful job. These boots are rubber tubes which are stretched over the leading edge of the wing which can be inflated & deflated rythmetically to break up and loosen any ice which may form on the wings in high altitude flight. There is 110 feet of wing spread and the tail assembly so there is a lot to do. The boots are held down with metal strips along the edges fastened on with metal screws about 1 inch apart so that gives an idea what a task this is. In one of your recent letters you asked me if there was anything I needed. I do, I've got a moustash and need a little pair of
