Sept 18 1942 Wendover, Utah Dear Dad + mom: I've just finished [calestoalpies] and will try and write a bit before i go to sleep. They made a mistake and got us up an hour early this morning and you should have heard the moaning and carrying on. I was one of the chief mourners golly I hated to get up. It was certainly wild last night the wind blew fiercely and it was very cold most of the fellows wore their new leather suits. I wore my jacket but not pants. they are very warm and of course I got mine greasy. We didn't work until after Dinner 11:30 P.M. but then the wind died down some and we pulled a 25 hr. Inspection. We sometimes wondered if our barracks would stay here or not several of the tents went down, wind gets a good sweep out here.
