Sheppard Field Wichita Falls, Texas Air Corps Technical School July 2, 1942 Dear Dad & Mother: I got your grand Sunday letter yesterday it's a real treat to get such a long newsy letter. Also had one from the [Kahl's?]. Tommorrow at 1:45 PM we graduate with very little ceremony and I guess we are then restricted to our squadron area for [shipment?] so I guess the 4th won't be much of a celebration for me. I don't mind that altho some of the fellows said there is to be a rodeo near here which I'd like to go to. I got 90 in my final exam last night, missed a couple of easy questions which I shouldn't of but I'm satisfied. I won't know what I got in my last two phases but they were pretty good. I could have been an instructor if I had wanted to but I surely didn't want it. My average was just a little under 90 for the whole course which pleased me but I only hope I can put it to good use. I'm still a little skeptical as my mechanical ability but I'm going to try as hard as I can. Everyone is all excited as to where they will be sent, of course there are lots of rumors but no one will really know until we get there. I only hope we get out of this part of Texas where this field (if ever) gets [gassed?] over to hold down the dust if won't be so
