July 23, 1942 Dear Dad & Mom: Well I've turned my bed & bedding into the supply room and am waiting to march to the train and take off. I'm not looking forward to this trip much as we go by troop train and eat out of our mess kits. Taht means K.P.s on the train & washing mess kits with my usual lunch. I'll probably draw K.P. not much enthused about where I'm going it will be hotter than it is here and probably not so well organized. It (Wendover) is about 80 miles from the closest town Salt Lake so I don't suppose will see much of civilization. Will be two days and two nights on the train. Spent a very interesting afternoon yesterday watching them (Warner Bros) filming part of the picture that are filming here. Ronald Reagan & Meredith seem to be regular fellows as friendly as can be and not snooty at all. They talked & joked with the soldiers all their time off and signed hundreds of autographs thru the day. It surely must take a long time to make picture for I watched them about 3 hours and they only took a few scenes. I didn't suppose they would let you any where near actual takes but we were withing ten feet
