since we knew it was very much out of the ordinary. They said they were too glad to do any little thing for the Americans. We left Liverpool by train at 12:30. There were 17 trains of troops going out at the same time so you can imagine what it was like. You probably know the England trains. Most of the nurses slept sitting up but I was far too excited to do that. At Crewe a sweet girl put her head in the door and offered us tea and buns which I accepted just to have her stay and talk. She proved to be a Belgian refugee who did canteen work every night from 7 to 7 as her bit. At Birmingham we were all given a pint of coffee. That trip across England was one of the pleasantest experiences I have ever had. Every foot of soil was producing either flowers, grain or vegetables the hedges were lovely, the little thatched cottages, the fields of poppies all left an impression
