we did emergency work for two "nurseless" hospitals. By the time our hospital was completed we were ready to turn them over to the nurses who had arrived. This is the largest hospital center in the world and consists of many units. Until Victory each hospital consisted of 20-50 bed wards- long brick or frame buildings and each ward also had a 35 bed tent - we also took over an uncompleted hosp. of the same size so that with personelle of 100 nurses and 35 doctors supposed to care for about 500 patients. We were caring for about 3000. The wounded were sent down from the front in trains. The wounds I simply cannot describe, they were so much worse than anything we had ever seen. Our American boys have been wonderful - very very brave - accepting the most terrible pain almost as if it was to be expected - never complaining and usually
