April 23, 1943 Pocatello, Idaho Dear Dad & Mom: Tonight the wind is blowing quite a gale but it is still sunshining and pleasant. warm and springlike. One of the fellows planted several packets of flower seeds around our barracks a few days ago and I must see if they are coming up. Just want out to see but nothing is peeking thru. It has been too dry. We had a rough barracks inspection today and had to change several things around. All heads are to be toward the wall gas masks and field bag hung differently. no two fields Ive been at do things the same way. Also had shoe inspection but I had a new paif so didnt have to shine them and they looked good. Ruby's husband is in the army too in the signal corps at Hill Field I think it is. If I were lucky enough to catch a plane its only a half hours trip down there. Would like to see her and meet her guy. I'm sorry the starter switch on the car went to pot but it's gone quite a ways now and I suppose a fellow can expect those little things to come up. This nice spring weather I miss having a car but tied down this way I am I couldnt use it much anyhow have often wished since Ive been in that I
