some clothes and jewells too. On our trip here there was not much of war to be seen until we reached the [Prave?] R which flows at right angles from the Alps to the Sea. The distance is about 40 - 50 miles between the mount ains and the Sea. The [Prave?] river bottom is about the width of the Missipipi R at Iowa but at most of the time is practically dry but in rainy times over flows its banks with are 15 ft high including dikes. There was some destruction of the buildings there but not so much as in France. Next we came to the Tagliomento which is practically the same as the [Piave?]. The city of Goretz showed considerable signs of destruction but from there to Trieste only the dug outs and barbed wire entanglements showed were some very severe fighting took place. We will probably stay here tomorrow and then I suppose move on to
