to the people here but it is necessary to get transportation before reaching the many people away from the rail road lines and so many of the lines are out of commission on account of blowing up bridges etc. The wind is blowing a regular Feby gale here so I will not miss a winter after all. But I am glad to see something to do and you know the weather will not fade me at all. I think this country has probably been more affected by war than any other I have visited not so much by destruction of villages as by cleaning out every thing of value. I wrote you before about the trip down the River on the boat. This town lies along the river and passes then on to the highlands near resembling Dubuque a great deal in many ways only it is or was about 120,000 people before the war.
