oats is very good here this year but you know that it required a wet season for oats but for the corn crops this season they are nearly gone up for it has been so wet that where corn was planted on flat land it is nearly all dead or so near dead that it cant make any corn it has been so wet that corn could not grow on rawling land we have in about twenty acres of corn and about one third of it will not pay us for planting it and the other two thirds will be or looks like it will be something like one half crop if it das not continue wet and the frost nips it again like it did last year it has been wet ever since last spring and has been raining nearly all the time about the first of July it rained one day and night and it is said that in the city of Morava in Appanoose County Iowa that it covered the earth in the space of twelve hours to the debth of 14 inches of solid water and washed of all of the bridges that was in all the country it washed off six bridges between where we live and union Ville so it was almost impassable and you may guess that it was very wet
