Mon.18 My turn to read an essay came today which I fulfilled by reading one on the subject of "Starlight". Our society met but did very little business. I attended a very interesting lecture on phrenology by Mr. Fisher. He is a very good lecturer. I joined his class for the purpose of examining its claims for a science. Tues. 19 Nothing of importance transpired today. Whenever I have finished reciting my lessons for one day, I must look out for others for the next just like the busy housewife who, after she has washed this dishes for this meal must prepare them for the next. I feel quite well now. Wed. 20 It seems that our present administration is compelled to surrender the noble fort Sumpter so gallantly defended by our hero Col. Anderson, the South will undoubtley consider this her victory. It is a necessity an account of the scarcity of provisions and the impossibility of its reinforcement, owing to the blamable negligence of the late demoncratic administration I had my cranium examined and was informed that I have an excellent head for the becoming an able jurist.and was advised to follow the law as a profession. my ambition is aroused!
