Tues. 13 Buried Private Conrad Schmidt of my company, this morning; he died in the hospital yesterday morning of pneumonia. I did not feel very well having a sore throat, so I laid in bed the greater part of the day. It began to rain quite severely this evening. And increased during the night. Wed. 14. We had quite a time in getting our stove arranged so as to make it warm our tent sufficiently, the storm blew down several tents, the rain continued all day very strongly and towards night it began to snow. This is a very disagreeable day, I am afraid that some of my boys will be sick after this day. Thurs. 15 I am getting a very poor opinion of this climate, since it is very cold, it seems to be as cold here as in Muscatine. The snow is about 8 in. deep this A. M.
