Fri. 16 The men are all huddled together in their tents so as to keep dry and warm, this makes men think of their homes and the loved ones they left in them. They anxiously look for the termination of the war. Sat. 17. I went down town to day to look after the welfare of my sick men, I found them all getting along pretty well, none dangerously sick, and improving rapidly. Sun. 18. Gen. Asboth has succeeded Gen. Davies in command of this district the former is an Hungarian and distinguished himself at Pea Ridge, the latter appears to be a very incompetent officer, who is ordered to report himself at Washington for mismanagement. Mon. 19 My men are about completing a very fine bake oven, to be used in baking bread for the Comp. We baked some bread in it to day which is very good.
