February Sun. 1. Another month has sprung into being and still we are in Columbus. It is very disagreeable weather, raining heavily, this is the 4th and 5th Sunday that it has rained in succession. I am not very well. Major O’Connor and myself have had a little personal difficulty. The storm is furiously raging without our tent and we are momentarily expecting it to turn it over. It is getting colder. Mon. 2. This morning I feel a little better, went over to the major’s and told him what I thought of his action towards me, he was angry but did not feel inclined to give offense. Finally we let the matter rest. I preferred charges against F. J. Monroe for speaking disrespectfully to the orderly [sg’t?]. Towards evening, the 34. Wisconsin reg’t came down numbering about 400 men, they are drafted, mostly Germans.
