Thurs. 5 I went to see our sick and found them improving. The boats left about 4 A. M. for Cairo, where we arrived after a somewhat disagreeable trip it being very cold and snowing. We were ordered to occupy our old barracks, which pleased the men exceedingly, they took possession of them with many expressions of joy, the first time they moved into them they did not like them but now they are very glad to be in them. I immediately set everybody to work to make himself at home. I found some changes in my barracks but no improvements, I went to work and worked till quite late to have things suitably arranged. My lts. did not assist me properly. Fri. 6. Some difficulty occurred in the Company with some of the men, last evening. I made it all right this morning however. I hardly took time to eat my meals, and did not wash until 4 P. M. because I worked hard in having my quarters prepared so as to make them look like home, assisted in making furniture for my room. At night I received some Journals, and a letter from Carrie. Spoke to the Company.
