Sat. 7. Again I had to perform the duties of Officer of the day, it was rather a muddy job. I did not do a great deal of walking however. Went to see Capt. Keeler who is now provost marshal here, spent a very social evening in his office in Company with Col. Hill, Fred Dayton, Geo. Satterlee and Bohn. The Captain seems to get along quite well. Sun. 8. Had a little trouble with captain Dill. Went to church for the first time within the last two months, and heard our chaplain preach, the sermon was not very extraordinary. The roads are very muddy received several letters, and answered a few. I went to bed about 12 P. M. and had scarcely got straitened out when Capt. John came in and handed me an order to take charge of some federal paroled prisoners, bound for St. Louis Mo. on board str. “Adelia”. I dressed quickly looked up the boat reported at Hd. Qrs. made the necessary preparations and returned to my quarters and went to bed.
