1863-02-10 -- 1863-02-11

Tues. 10  We proceeded on our way about 5 A. M. reached a place called Commerce in Missouri, where the rebel General Jeff. Thompson  made several raids, about 8 A. M. took a little freight and one passenger on board, landed at Cape Girardeau about 11 A. M. where 4 Companies of the Iowa 32. are stationed, looked about town a little, found 4 forts in existance here.  Had a corpse put off, and one man deserted.  The boat repaired her wheels and about noon we started again, and kept on without any occurrence of note, till we reached a German settlement called Wittenberg, where we found some good woolen socks and splendid beer.  

Wed. 11.  It is rather foggy this morning, and did not leave the moorings until 7 A. M. about 9 A. M.  we were passed by the mail steamer Mill Boy.  It rained quite briskly.  I should remark that we took a newly married couple on board, at Cape Girardeau who acted very silly, he pretending to be a
