Saturday 15. Our armies are resting for the present. The seige of Charleston S. C. is progressing finely, everything, seems to indicate our final success in reducing that hot bed of secession. The Copperheads are getting bolder everywhere, yet the strong men, of our government has promptly quelled all riotous disturbances offered by the peace sneaks. The riots in New York City assumed a formidable shape, but were properly stopped by military force. Even in Iowa, in Keokuk Co, the Copperheads and loyalists had a fight in which the former were defeated, order was restored by the appearance of several militia Comp's. Why cannot the people be a unit now in crushing the rebellion? if a unity of action could be secured in the North, this war would soon cease, yet the political wire workers are doing all in their power to frustrate the plans of our government, in order to further their own selfish ends, but history will record their business, and brand them as infamous forever. Sunday 16 Lt. Soper's hand will not be amputated, I am very glad of it, it is believed that he will have the use of all his fingers save one. Our well and bake oven are finished and prove to be very good
