Monday 12. This morning everything is quiet, we were not disturbed by any rebels last night nor this morning. A few rebels attacked our cavalry pickets that was all the battle we had today. Our Commissioner came to day to take the votes of our regiment. Judges were appointed to conduct the election in our regiment for governor &Co. tomorrow. Tuesday 13. A pleasant day for election, the men seem to be interested yet they manifest no excitement nor ill feeling, everything is passing off very finely for an election. The result of the election shows this evening to be 211 for Stone and 124 for Tuttle. The other Iowa regiments give Tuttle far fewer votes than ours. This suits me. Wednesday 14 Captain Dill left for Muscatine this morning. He took a letter to reverend Obermann, from me answering his inquiry about some men in my company who were reported killed, he also stated that the democrats reported in Muscatine that these men were killed while engaged in robbing citizens. What a horrible reputation our fellow citizens at home give us. Have just received orders to pack up & to get ready to march.
