Wednesday 18. Received new guns for our old ones, which we have carried nearly a year. Those which we received are Enfield rifles but they do not fit properly. We had two inspections of arms today, and the majority of the guns were condemned and exchanged for better ones of the same patent. I went to town and turned my old tents over to the Q.M. had considerable trouble in doing so. My sergeant Bernhardt Naeve and private Hermann Schmidt returned this afternoon to the company from home, having been there sick for some time, they look well. We are ordered to leave here at daybreak tomorrow, to march towards Lagrange. I am ready and almost anxious to leave this place. We may have to meet some of the rebels but if we do, I know we will give them the attention and the treatment which traitors deserve. I purchased a very fine watch. I bid my journal adieu for a short time.
