Major John and some other officers came up from Middleton to attend the party. I made a little preparation and after supper went over to Brigade Headquarters. I found Colonel Geddes, who was very glad to see me, he and others invited me to write the programme of the evening which I did in the presence of Lt Mayer, who was rather angry at this. The guests speedily collected and the dance opened. I was very much amused at the first set of cotillion, I never saw so many blunders committed by any set of dancers in this dance, sometimes the ladies would hop
