he is not an extremist either in religion not politics, but is inclined to a liberal view in each. He supports our present administration firmly, and is severe on rebels, even favoring the severest methods in crushing the rebellion. Long may he line to do good to ManKind Our Surgeon We have one of the best surgeons in the army, a man who has studied the Materia Metica thoroughly and who has spent the best years of his life in the successful practice of his profession. S. M. Cobb, is not only beloved by the men as a surgeon, but also on account of his gentlemanly conduct, and his sympathy with the sick. He was promoted to chief surgeon of our regiment on the resignation of Dr Chambers. He has recently returned from his home, where he spent several months, on sick furlough. He endured the service very well until our last march to Jackson when he took sick. He is unwell now.
