so the dirt came out quite well. I was going to get some stripes sewn on today but find they have none in supply (I must get them on before I reach home). Tried to get an overcoat but they didnt have one so I'll have to wear my mackinaw and look like an M.P. The lowest form of animal life. Just moved over to the day room to finish as it is warmer. The wind goes right thru our barracks and [stones?] are cut clear down during the day. I have so many letters to write I scarcely know where to begin. We were to have an inspection today, some visiting general but I havent seen him as yet wont hurt my feelings if he doesnt come at all. Sure hope the Iowa weather settles down and behaves itself but I know the worst is just beginning if it runs true to form. Well I'll quit for now hope to see you very soon. Don't know how close I can get to home on the train but will get as close as I can + catch the bus or call home if it is near enough Love Johnny
