Jan 27, 1943 Tuscon Arizona Dear Dad + Mom: I'll try and write a bit more than I did last nite. It has been a miserable day here, rained intermittantly all day and was cold + foggy, planes were grounded all day but we worked except when it was raining too hard. Expected to have to work last night but it was changed and I worked today instead Id rather work day anyhow. I have a new crew which doesnt much please me as they arent so good as my other bunch but perhaps every thing will work out okay. I expect you found my watch right where I forgot it on my dresser. Maybe you can mail it to me if it isnt too much trouble. If you can find an extra long strap in town would you please it put on, I dont believe I want a metal one they always seem to be catching on something and breaking. I tried to get one at a shop in town here but they were all to short. Was sure lucky to get my furlough, those who were to go in the next bunch had theirs cancelled and no more will be given until April so Im indeed thankful. How I did enjoy that brief stay at home but it was lots harder to leave than the first time, but it was sure worth it. How I can look forward to the next one maybe it wont be so long, wish I had Dan Ganske's formula for getting them often. This new set up is punk they split our squadron right in half and then shipped in a bunch of mechanics who had worked on primary trainers these fellows all had
