Feb. 21, 1943 Tuscon, Ariz. Dear Dad + Mom: This is the last sheet of my Christmas stationary that you sent me but I still have that Aunt Jennie sent me to start in on. I think it was a good investment for you in you like my letters because most of it went back to Iowa. One of the fellows was just around here with a young bull snake he had caught out near the ramp. It was a pretty little thing but I dont think Id much care for it as a pet The way I hate snakes I cant see how anyone carries them around in their pockets or coiled around their arms. There is a beautiful sunset tonight all golden + scarlet, should be a nice day tomorrow. Even these bare old mountains take on a different appearance it seems to bring out a kind of lavender tinge to them and that bluish color that comes with long distances. A fellow can imagine castles and most all sorts of figures, when you are up in the air they dont look very big in fact it is difficult to tell them from the other bare country but on the field they look like pretty fair hills. Just finished reading Will James "Home Ranch" I started it way over in the gulch but never seemed to find time to read it. It was good I like his books and especially his illustrations and descriptions. Most of them are easy reading and about things which appeal to me. The squadron next to ours had a big bust up yesterday, new men with higher rank replaced the
