March 15, 1942 Tuscan, Arizona Dead Dad & Mom: Another day and we weren’t to busy as the ship couldn’t fly because the flight indication is [illegible]. Got quiet a few letter written, some clothes washed and a new pair of shoes from supply. Salvaged another pair today, hope I get them without any trouble. Washed five pairs of sox and five pairs of shorts and the wind blew and now I have seven socks and of the time. There is a wild rummer going around here now that all of us in the maintenance crew who have had a high school education and got a pretty good grade and an I.Q. are to be sent to Office Candidate School personally I don’t want it. I should rather be a master sergeant [drawing?] flying pay than a [illegible] of course when the war is over you still retain the rank of a commissioned officer while an enlisted man loses this. As far as the [illegible] is concerned Im doing about as well as a [shave] tail (2nd L.T.) when all [illegible] expenses are figured out. Don’t think there is a word of truth in it anyhow. Im going to have C.Q. again soon just noticed it on the bulletin board. That is a [tedious?]
