the magnets switches switched from right to left & back to both positions to check for any drop in R.PMs due to faulty plugs loose wires etc. These engines have twin ignition, two plugs in each cylinder the front row worked by the right mag & the rear by the left. So if one mag. should go out the engine will still run okay. Then you run it up to 2000 and change the pitch of the prop blades. This is similar to shifting gears in the car you can set it for how big a bite of air you want it to take. This is done by means of an electric prop [illegible] which limits the flow of oil which hydraulically moves the blaes. You then open the engine wide open and it must attain a certain R.P.M without the supercharger open and it has to attain a much bigger manifold pressure and R.P.M. At the same time you must check all the oil pressure gages, oil temperature gauges, cylinder head temp, manifold pressure, tachometers, vacuum pumps, fuel pressure gages, and other flight instruments. Also must check generators, hydraulic pressure fire extinguishers, first aid kits, maps, radio facility chars, and a dozen other things. In short it is to determine whether the ship is in flying condition or not. Dont suppose this means much to you. I'm glad Pap had so many visitors while he was resting up. Dont remember ever fixing Mule Hide Thompson's car but Im surprised if it ever
