May 19, 1943 Pocatello, Idaho Dear Dad + Mom: Just got up its about 5 P.M but I didnt get to bed until 1 P.M. Was just going to come in last night and my ship came down with a bad oil leak which turned out to be a blown cylinder. Started to work on it immediately and got along pretty good had to wash the wing, fuselage and tail section with gasoline. Got the old one off about nine and pushed it in the hangar and had the new engine hung by midnight and then the trouble started. There was a small plug which had to be [remaned?] to connect the heater hose to. It just wouldnt come out we worked four solid hours on the pesky thing. At five A.M we got it out and then we had a broken tail skid for which we couldnt get parts so it didnt get back in commission as soon as I had hoped but the squadron inspector couldnt find a thing wrong with it. May 20- That is as far as I got last evening a friend Floyd Simpson asked me to have dinner with him. He has his wife here and they are living in a small apartment down town. Had an excellent meal then took a short ride out thru the city park saw the monkeys, bear, deer, elk, buffalo (buf-falo), bob-cat, coyotes, porkupine, rabbits pheasants etc. Park
