just walking around to save funeral expenses. They are doing quite a bit of road repair work on the base. have a huge machine set up for mixing black top compound, most of the roads are already black toped but they are giving them another layer. Makes darn poor road at best. Dont remember whether I told you or not but that guy who cut his foot at Perry Iowa is in the next squadron and I know who he is. One of the other guys was telling last night that he is still in the hospital. Got a letter from Uncle Raymond today, says he expected to see you folks before now but hadnt as yet. Said not to worry about gas if you could get out there he'd see you got home all right. Aunt Ethel has 100 new chix to play with and they are working hot + [illegible], plowing corn + its time to start haying. Oats and flax look fine he thinks. Doesnt seem like your vacuum cleaner has very good service does it? I dont see how anyone could get ailing without one. We even have to have a vacuum to keep the airplane clean inside. The poor Hays must be in an awful mess but hope they all get along okay. Must go back to work. Love Johnny
