July 9, 1943 Pocatello, Idaho Dear Dad, Mom & Grandma: This has been a quiet, lazy day ship has flown all day and well. A a colonel and a couple of majors flew it this morning two flights and brought it back as okay. Worked on it last night until midnight has an inspection and a [lot?] of extra work, changed 2 generators, 1 fuel pump 1 engine oil canter, 1 fuel booster pump (this required the gas tank to be drained). changed plugs in one engine repaired any number of cowl flaps, changed batteries just on 2 new sun visors. Then came the worst these planes have gas burning heaters on them similar to our car (same make). They get their gas from a small fitting in the llower section of the engine. this fitting had broken off and had to be removed with an easy out (special tool) of course it was in a [heck?] of a place to get at and it took us five hours to complete the job. This has been a fine day warm but not hot. Wind didnt come up until about five oclock but now is going fine. Have to hold my paper down as it would blow away doors and windows are open wide in the barracks.
