Dear Dad, Mom & Gradma: This is the last letter I will write for a while, and I might even beat this one home. I'm all pepped up for tomorrow I get my furlough and "[illegible]" of this place for the garden "[illegible]" of the "[illegible]". All the fellows who have come thru Iowa say it certainly looks fine and I know it will look better to me than most folks. Had nasty little windstorm this afternoon and our barracks is knee deep with dust. A couple of "[illegible]" were out for inspections and the "[illegible]" went sailing away with papers and tumbleweeds, rained a bit "[illegible]" and cleaned the air but I feel we're in for more storms tonight. Will be a good night ot "[illegible]" and that's what I'm going to do as I'll miss a "[illegible]" on the way home. Travelling conditions are kind of tough. Crowded cars and all "[illegible]" that have been "[illegible]" of service for years and men pressed back into service because of the demand. Washed a few more clothes this evening so I could start home with everything clean. Meant to get some more GI shorts and "[illegible]" had the opportunity to sign "statement of charges" for quite a
