Aug. 21, 1943 Pocatello, Ida. Dear Dad, Mom & Grandma: This has been an easy day, all our planes are grounded by a [illegible] order until a certain part of the landing gear is removed and magnafluxed (Xray) for any cracks or defects. Can only work on one at a time as that is all the jacks we have. Dont know when Ill do it to my ship. We won the track meet again this month, got first place in every event. Our squadron had 50 points our closest competitor 27, another squadron 2. and the other 0. This is the second time in three months we have won it. Doesnt mean much but helps the squadron. Maybe we will organize a football team this fall, wish they would I might get in shape again, afraid Im to old to play but Im foolish enough to try. Went up to Blackfoot last night with the ball team. They won 9 to 6 from the Elks team up there. Saw some real nice country going up there, an irrigated valley oats, wheat, potatoes & alfalfa all looked fine. Dont know whether I would like irrigating or not it would be handy to just open a gate when the crops need moisture but makes
