Oct. 8, 1943 Pocatello, Idaho Dear Dad, Mom & Grandma: Will write a bit before I go back out on the line, just came from gas school which is to last two hours per day for five days but was a little short today. It is a routine chemical warfare lecture or series of lectures which everyone must attend once each year. In general it's a lot of bunk but no doubt it is necessary to know. Still have the flight chief job but expect the regular guy back soon, so I can go back to my usual job which I think I like better. If there was a difference in pay it might be worth it but as it stands doesnt have much appeal. I had to go to town last night with some other fellows play football and appear at an American Legion meeting. They are sponsoring the team so are interested in it. Seemed like quite a nice bunch of fellows and glad to see us. We are having K. rations again for a few days, the P.X. will do a rushing business I expect. They arent so bad but scarcely the glowing pictures the Saturday Evening Post would have you believe in their advertisements. The dinner meal has 4 oz of delicious cheese in it, four little biscuits similar to Ry-krisp. three more wafers, also tasteless, a pinch of synthetic
