Oct. 18, 1943 Pocatello, Idaho Dear Dad, Mom & Grandma: This is another dreary rainy afternoon planes arent flying and Im just hanging around the parachute department waiting for the weather to clear and time to pass. Thought I might write a bit on G.I. paper and the parachute [illegible] ink. I believe its getting colder and if it clears at all will freeze pretty hard tonight, good weather to sleep and Im kind of drowsy but guess I can make it until bedtime. Have been reading the Readers Digest and Saturday Evening Post some very good articles and stories in both which I enjoyed. Got a letter from you & one from Mr Dibble today at noon. I almost always get your letters in the noon mail call very seldom in the evening. We are supposed to be having a physical fittness test today, are conducting it inside the recreation hall dont think I'll go too stiff. I know the guy who checks off names pretty well and [illegible] he will mark my name off. Its that bunk about chinning yourself, push ups, running etc. Guess if I can play football I can do all that.
