5 as calmly as I possibly can. Reverse the case & do you think you would have any more philosaphy than I have? I know you are anxious to send me word after an engagement, extremely anxious, but then you know I will be glad whenever the word does reach me & I do not know but evry mail will bring me the word that you had fallen. I do always hope for the best. If I did not I could not stand it at all, but it would be unnatural were I not troubled about you. And now at this very moment it is highly probable you are in an engagement, yet I pray for you & hope are are not & try to rest contented until I hear. Do not think I borrow trouble. Evry body in town will tell you that I keep cheerful until sad news do come & even then I hope it is not as bad as represented until it is confirmed. My Subscription for the "Gate"
