January 5, 1944 Pocatello, Idaho Dear Dad & Mom: Last night was my last night to work for awhile, so I can write a bit more regularly. I'm always glad to get off that job, never did like night work but it has to be done. I'm putting a new tail on my ship, some dumb combat man threw an ammunition box out the side window and it bashed in the horizontal stabilizer. Its quite a job have to take off the two vertical stabilizers, disconnect all control cables, remove the de-icer boots etc. Should get it done tomorrow if we have good luck. It's snowing again tonight have about an inch or two of fresh snow and the forecast is for snow and warmer so we may have quite a little by morning. It has warmed up considerably from what it has been the past few days. I've had an awful time getting this written, have a bunch of guys around here and [illegible] been talking about [fishing?] and [hunting?]. Lots of tall stories going I can tell you.
