Jan. 7, 1943 [Packey?], Ida. Dear Dad & Mom: We had it cold this morning about 20 below zero. It really bit deep, but warmed up about noon to around zero, glad there wasnt any wind or we would have frozen. My plane is in the hangar yet changing the tail assembly, should go out tomorrow morning. The fellows had an awful time with their planes, two broke starters one blew an oil cooler off and one developed a gas leak, one is in Denver forced down by weather and two in Wendover on account of bad weather so we arent doing much flying today even if we could. Got a letter from Jim today with a five dollar money order in it He just wrote a note but I was glad to hear from him. Still haven't written to Bob he will think I've forgotten him Im afraid. Ive carried a money order around
