Got first letter from home. From Mother. a happy soldier. August 22 Heard cannons booming also seen lights from the trenches. August 23 First airplane scrap at 915 p.m. Siren started to blow. So did everyone. no damage. August 24 Did some washing went to town in Evening August 25 Went on parade at 945 a.m. marched all through the town. Passed befor General [Gansand?] A noted General in France.
