Nov. 14, 1943 Pocatello, Idaho. Dear Dad + Mom: Cold and raw here today and believe it is [getting?] colder tonight. Can't see how we will get much flying time in here this winter. Last winter they didn't get enough to be worth while. We are kind of getting organized now made out our flights and crews today so we should soon get the crews on the ball. The fellows aren't used to working on planes and don't know where to begi . They just kind of stand around and have to be told everything. Perhaps it will come in time. I was made a flight chief which gives me more responsibility with no added pay. Don't like it but guess it's my job so will do the best I can. They don't have a mess hall set up in our squadron area so we have to eat in the consolidated mess. Food is [illegible] but [illegible] are sustinence without flavour. Had chicken today but was very tough, think it crowed at sun up for years. We had some good bean soup for supper was really tasty and some cabbage slaw that was fine. My [skinned?] up nose is almost healed, have had a big patch on it for a couple of days. Got a lot of razzing from the guys.
