least four. With a supervisor in attendance for the season. Of course down here that sport is taboo. The popular winter sport here would be "mud-splashin", as we have more mud than any of us ever saw before, particularly the fellows from the cities. Shortly after my arrival in Sicily was posted to a large town where quite a centre awaited me. It was a former technical & commercial school operated by the once 'proper party.' Along with a well patronized canteen we had a quiet room, reading room, games & billiard room, chapel, barber shop. During the afternoons & early evening a local 6 piece orchestra provided popular tunes and popular classical music. It amased me the number of requests baritone had for Ave Maria. Very few chaps thought in terms of the "jive". In the garden that was surrounded by a piazza grew many varieties of fruit - lemons, oranges, bananas, olives & such; also cotton, roses in many varieties and others unknown to me. Over Christmas weekend
