May 1, 1944 Dear Dave, I received my second copy of your weekly letter today. I really enjoy it. It seems on never gets enough news from the old home town. The weather here in Laredo has been hot and I do mean hot. Several times the mercury has reached over the one hundred degrees mark. When I left Denver in March there was snow on the ground and just three days later (troop train time) I was in the deep South. Really missed the best time of the year. It is now Wednesday evening and the first moment I have had to finish this letter. Monday night I was brought to abrupt ending by the blast of the first sargent's whistle. The weather man had predicted a big blow so all the students were marched up to the flight line where we spent the rest of the night lieing on the wing of an airplane. Myself and six other guys were
