Ft. Knox KY 22 May 1944 Dear Dave, Now that the Derby is over and the work has started again I will take time out to write a few lines. Things are considerably calmer here in Louisville since the Derby is over. But I can't see any slackening of the work. Tell Bob [Mc] it is a good thing he wasn't here, he might of lost more than he did in the game: some $9,232,765 was bet during the 18 day racing season. Some money. $2,144,620 was bet Derby Day. So much for the Derby. Churchill Downs is a beautiful place to see. I am working with the "Armored Board" here at Ft. Knox. I am plenty busy but like the work fine. We test new equipment for the Armored command. A lot of our work is secret and very interesting. Have seen a lot of new things that will make life very unpleasant for the enemy. Wish you could make a visit to Knox to see us. I could show you a lot of interesting things, one the Gold Vault where they have all the gold that no one ever sees.
