Aug. 26, 1944 France Dear Mr. Elder, I suppose you have been wondering what has become of me. I've been receiving the Scuttlebutt right along and have always looked forward to receiving it. I'm sorry that I haven't written you sooner. But as you can see I'm now in France and am in Combat. I had planned on writing a lot sooner but we are really kept busy and as for letter writing all you can do is just think about it. Thats about all the further it goes. So please forgive me for being so slow in writing. I've found by receiving your paper that there is quit a few fellows over here. I was thinking that I was about the only one.
