New Guinea 8/31/44 Dear Dave I've been getting your papers in great style lately. I'd say I'd about caught up with the news from the home front now. Seems there's been quite a few casualties from home. Sorry to hear about it. I hope some of those fellows that are missing turn up. At the rate they're going it shouldn't be long till they finish in Europe.----- (illegible)------- Regardless of that, Bob Hope came within artillery range of the japs to give us a show, I can't praise him enough. He's a great guy. Bill H. [Pvt. Bill Hammer?]
