U.S. Naval Hosp., Navy #10 (ten) % Fleet Post Office San Francisco Calif. Sept 21, 1944 Dear Dave & Mabel, Just received this morning your copy of the "Scuttlebutt" and was pleased to get it and want to thank you for it. The yellow sheet showing the corn stalk is going to stop people from calling me a liar. I have taken pride in bragging up our town, but haven't run into anyone from Iowa who could back me up. You know every town in the states is the best, and rightfully so. Had a little tough luck and landed back here in hospital after losing 25# (illegible) and am feeling better but still mighty weak. Will be okay again I hope. Wish I could drop in on you all again, but it looks from here like it will be a couple of years yet. I imagine there have been lots of changes since I left 28 months ago. Thanking you again & best regards to all. Tmmast Lt. Comdr M.C. U.S.N.R. [Lt. Comdr. T. M. Mast]
