France Sept. 30, 1944 Dear Mr. Elder, I have a little spare time this afternoon between fire missions so I'll just try and drop you a few lines. I have been receiving the Scuttlebutt quite regularly and am hoping the next one will get here soon? The last issue I've received was the twenty-fourth drip. Incidentily, I've received two issues since I last wrote. The mail is getting to me very slow for nearly the last three weeks. I sure hope it picks up a little speed. And do it real soon. I hope the mail isn't that slow getting home. Have any of the other fellows here in France mention too you that they were having mail trouble? I hope not. Dave, I have received three Scuttlebutts now that have had that new feature that you were talking about adding for so long. I think this new feature has helped the Scuttlebutt out a lot. I thought the paper was perfect before the addition. But it now has a little added boost. Having this extra feature we also get the news & changes of address of fellows & women that aren't having the fortune of receiving the Scuttlebutt. All in all it was a splendid addition. I hope you are feeling in the best of health and have fully recovered from your well earned vaccation. I'm glad to hear that you have again been chosen as the editor of "The Y's Men's World," No, I'm afraid I haven't heard of the magazine. But no doubt its a good one or the Y men wouldn't be printing it. As for me, I'm feeling just fine. We are still kept plenty busy over here. I guess you can figure that out by reading the paper and listening to the radio. It calls for a lot of work but I'm sure its well worth it. I only hope we can end this soon over here and we will have half the war won anyway. There is quit a talk amongst the fellows about this point system on giving the discharges after the Germans are licked. Some of the fellows think they have all there points figure out. Boy I'm afraid us young fellows are going to fall a little short on points. But I guess thats counting our
