February 21, 1944 Dear Dad & Mom: This was a key day for me, got three letters from home, including the one. Pauline Alcorn put the extra postage on. The others were mailed the 17th & 16th so they came thru in good time. Dont see how you find so much to write about and so interesting but Im sure glad you do. Doesnt seem a thing around here. You are really having winter back home now after all the spring like weather Iowa has been dishing out. Sure sorry there isnt someone to shovel the walks, seems like quite a job for you Mom but what that'll do for the "girlish figger." Am happy to know Brad has a family and they're getting on well. If I knew his address I'd try and at least write. Seems as tho the Finch grandchildren kind of run to girls, wish the kid had been a boy but dont expect they'd trade her for a dozen. I'll be darned if I'd let B. Blunt rupe me out of those things, they are too much work to made and I dont like the old heifer anyhow. You have plenty of people you want to give those to. My gosh I noticed in one of those clippings poor Mae Witherbee is having an operation, has her hand healed up yet? Im glad Bob is stationed at a better place now and doing dentistry all together. Im sure he'll get a lot of experience on all the G. I's but expect there is an awful sameness in his work. He once said he didnt always agree with the kind of work the army made him do.
