February 26, 1944 Dear Dad & Mom: Didn't do much of anything all day, got up early and went to chow, cleaned up the barracks and then just kind of loafed. Did clean up a pile of ashes, didn't have to but I'd rather keep busy then just loaf. Planned to go to the show this afternoon but found I'd seen it so went down to the P.X. and bought a towel and some tooth paste. Went to a matinee yesterday saw "The Bridge of San Luis Rey" saw it once years ago but enjoyed it a lot. There is a lot to think about in it but I couldn't figure it out. Jim gave me some pictures of "Falling Springs" taken the last time they were back home. I enjoy showing them to the fellas who believe Iowa is solid cornfield. One thing I wanted and forgot was to get a picture of the kids. Don't think I'd fancy having the Cooney kids lamb running around the house either. Jim was surely fed up with his lambs, said they ate the ivy, carrots, beets everything but the good grass which they which they should have. Say did you ever get the tires on the car recapped? You folks may want to drive more this summer than you did last. Well I guess there is nothing to write about that I can so will sign off. Love Johnny
