February 29, 1944 Dear Dad & Mom: Just fixed up the fire and will write a bit. We've got the darndest barracks, I believe mostof the guys would freeze rather than carry in a bucket of coal. I guess most of them are used to automatic heat, would be dreadful tho if they froze so I'll keep the fires burning. Had a letter from Aunt Jennie today, must write her, as it went to my old address first. She said Dorothy had returned home, poor kid I do hope she gets along well. I'll bet her house does seem empty now after having them so long. Spoke of seeing you quite recently and that you both seemed well. I seem to be getting this paper mighty dirty, nice clean coal dirt but perhaps it will still be legible, wont be much of a letter anyhow. Went to the movies this afternoon, a double feature, both very bad, slept thru one and the other was so bad I couldnt sleep so we left.
